Valdosta - Investigators break up a plan to rob a local convenience store.

Police got a tip that someone was planning to rob the Shell Station on West Hill Avenue. An undercover cop posed as the clerk Wednesday morning, and several others were hiding in and around the store.

The suspects came in about 2:00, and when one tried to jump the counter, the officers took him down.

"There was indication from the information we received that they were going to assault the clerk, and to prevent any loss of property or injuries, we decided to institute an undercover operation," said Sgt. Steve Owens.

Twenty-one year old Terrell Powell, 21-year-old Michael Spencer, 19-year-old Kelvin Howard, 18-year-old Jeremy Copeland, and a juvenile are charged with attempt to commit robbery.
