ALBANY - The sound of cracking bats was replaced with country music Saturday night during the South Atlantic Baseball League's 100th anniversary celebration at Paul Eames Park. [
Hundreds enjoyed the sunny afternoon and heard singers Andy Griggs and Trace Adkins. Albany was just one stop on a 12-city tour.
Griggs signed autographs for fans after his concert and Adkins felt especially at home; some of his family lives in Ashburn.
"It was great, a little bit hot," Griggs said. "You know, I am from Louisiana so this ain't no surprise to me - the heat and humidity. But, it was a lot of fun, the crowd was great."
"It's always kinda strange to do shows in front of family," Adkins told Newscenter 10. "It's more nerve-racking than doing shows in front of people who don't know you."
The South Atlantic League is one of the oldest minor leagues in the nation and has produced more Hall of Famers than any other league.
The South Georgia Waves, who played for one year in Albany, are members of The South Atlantic League. That team moved to Columbus, Georgia in March.
