Man viciously stabbed in store

June 20, 2003

Lee County- Just after 3:00PM on a busy shopping Friday, one customer attacked another inside the Winn Dixie Store on U.S. Highway 19.

The attack seemed to be random. The victim is 53-year-old Daniel Grant Wise, who was in the frozen food section. Witnesses say that out of the blue, Johnathan McCorkle, aged 33, pulled out a knife with a 4-inch serrated blade, and began stabbing him.

An employee tried to intervene by turning a food display over on McCorkle.

The Wise's most serious stab wound appears to be in the chest. He was also stabbed in the back, but we do not know, at this time, how many wounds he sustained.

After the stabbing, the McCorkle calmly walked to the front of the store, where he was soon arrested by a Lee County deputy. Authorities say he has a history of mental troubles, and does not remember stabbing anyone.
