Albany- An H&R Block employee is in trouble for stealing a tax refund check. Thirty-four-year-old Vanessa Scott of Lee County is charged with forgery.
Investigators say Scott, who worked at the H&R Block at Brooks Plaza, took a customer's $2,500 refund check and deposited it in her own checking account.
"When they went to pick up the refund check they couldn't find the check it wasn't available," said Lee Investigator Major Geoff Smith. "They stated they would have to find it and they would get back with her. They were able to determine the check had already been picked up."
Vanessa Scott is also being investigated for cashing another tax refund check also totaling $2,500. If found guilty, Scott could face one to five years in jail.
