Lowndes deputies find meth in traffic stop

June 19, 2003

Valdosta - Lowndes County deputies seized a half a million dollars worth of methamphetamines in an Interstate traffic stop.

Ten pounds of meth were found in a hidden compartment of the truck's tool box. The driver, 21-year-old Exae Gomez, was carrying the drugs from Atlanta to Florida. He was pulled over on I-75 near Exit 11 for reckless driving.

"The deputy said he was looking at him so hard he nearly ran off the road," said Sheriff Ashley Paulk. "He thought he was an impaired driver and when he pulled him over, he was showing some really nervous behavior."

Gomez is an illegal allien. He's being held in the Lowndes County Jail charged with drug trafficking.
