Know your hurricane evacuation route

Tifton- Emergency management officials say people fail to plan before the storms and panic when they hit. They say everyone should study evacuation routes before getting on the road.

Highways 82, 319, 41, and Interstate 75 are routes that all lead into Tifton from either the Atlantic or Gulf Coasts.

"About three years ago we had over 6,000 people come from the east coast and from as far down as St. Augustine, and we were flooded. We had people in campgrounds, we had people out here at the fairgrounds," says EMA Director, Faye Duckworth.

EMA Director Faye Duckworth says with so many people traveling along the roadways, knowing the routes and planning what you'll need to take for at least an overnight stay are keys to a safe evacuation.
