Dougherty County - Hope is running out that an Act of Congress will save the Radium Springs Casino. On Monday, county commissioners denied a request from the Radium Springs Casino Preservation Group to halt demolition until November. The extension would allow more time for Congress to save the landmark. But, planning officials say there's no way to demolish the Casino by FEMA's December 31st deadline if they don't start by September.

"We need to stick to our schedule," said Tracy Hester, Dougherty Planning. "So far we haven't heard anything from Congress."

If an Act of Congress does not come through, the city will start salvaging historical parts of the Casino on August 1st and demolition will begin on September 8th.
