Domestic Violence turns Deadly

June 13, 2003

(Albany) - 56- year-old Johnny Luther Connell has been charged with the murder of his wife, 45-year-old Cathy Connell. The incident occurred Thursday night at their home on Liberty Expressway.

Police say the couple had been fighting, and Mrs. Connell left with friends. She returned later to pick up some things from home. According to witnesses, Mr. Connell then stormed out and said "I'll just kill you." He opened the door to the car Mrs. Connell was in, pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed her multiple times.

"There were indications that the offender came back into town and his wife was out with some other people," says Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek. "They got into an argument based on domestic issues."

Mrs. Connell was not responsive to EMS workers on the scene. She was transported to a local hospital where she died a short while later.
