Bill Scheer to be re-tried

June 12, 2003

Albany-- Monroe High School math teacher Bill Scheer will be re-tried for murder.

Scheer stood trial in Macon last month on charges he killed his elderly father in 1990. The trial ended with a hung jury, with eight of the 12 jurors voting not guilty.

But District Attorney Ken Hodges says he will retry the case anyway, because he thinks he will be able to get a conviction with a different jury.

Scheer's lawyer, Pete Donaldson, says his client welcomes another trial because a verdict of not guilty is the only way he can clear his name.
