(Mitchell County)- State and local officials picked up shovels alongside representatives from Southeast Milk, Inc. Wednesday to break ground on a state-of-the-art facility planned to open in January 2004.
The ultra-filtration (UF) milk facility, which will employ at least 35 people, will be built adjacent to Aurora Dairy on Jackson Dairy Road near Baconton. It will be the most technological and largest east of the Mississippi.
The plant will operate seasonally to hand the company's surplus mile production.
Besides creating jobs for the Mitchell County community, the construction of the plant will be supervised by ALCON Associates in Albany, returning more money to the local economy.
According to a press release, Southeast Milk, Inc. is the nation's 12th largest dairy cooperative marketing milk for more than 300 dairy farms in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The company provides almost 3, 500,000 gallons of milk to Americans annually.
