AMERICUS, GA (WALB) – An Americus family that depends on Medicaid to take care of their two special needs children is about to lose those benefits.

They say they were just trying to do the right thing by starting a business, but the way the Social Security Administration calculates the value of that business could prevent their kids from getting treatment they need.

They need it because they can't afford the medical bills, without it they could loose their home.

JJ Battle had incorporated his business, but has since become a sole proprietor so the value of his business won't disqualify his two children for Medicaid.

"I have dissolved my corporation in hopes this can all be resolved, but being told by the case worker that I'm manipulating the system is very disappointed," said JJ Battle, Father.

The family has contacted congressman Bishop, and Senator Isakson about the problem.

Medicaid is also demanding the family pay back $18,000 the government says it overpaid them in previous years.
