(Bremen-AP) -- Rance Morgan hit three home runs and had eight RBI's through both games of a doubleheader as Clinch County defeated Bremen 11-0 and 12-2 to win the Class A state championship.
Morgan went 6-for-7 and scored four runs to back up the strong pitching of Rhett Barber and Rick Corbitt for Clinch County's first baseball title since 1992, when the Panthers completed a run of five championships in seven years.
Clinch County (28-7) also won the Class A football title last December.
Barber had a no-hitter in the opener before Matthew McClure opened the seventh with a sharp single to center.
Barber struck out eight, walked one, and retired 18 straight batters after opening the game with a walk and a fielder's choice.
Corbitt pitched 5 and 2/3's innings of shutout ball tonight before Bremen (25-7) put together four-straight hits to score its two runs, cutting the Clinch lead to 9-2.
The celebration was especially sweet for Clinch County coach Cecil Barber who is stepping down as the Panthers baseball coach after 25 years to concentrate on coaching the Panther football program and no doubt watching his son Rhett pitch for Georgia Southern.
