ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Numerous television networks, including NBC, will air Stand up to Cancer Friday night at 8:00 PM. It's a program to call attention to cancer research.

Next week in Albany, doctors will meet to talk about the disease which is the second leading cause of death.

Three hundred southwest Georgia doctors were invited to attend the Cancer Update at Phoebe Northwest. Dr. Phillip Roberts says it's a chance for doctors to share information about cancer. Because of early diagnosis and better care, cancer patients are living longer. Doctors say they can do a better job serving those patients if they simply communicate.

"Our patients are not divided up into organ systems, even though we practice that way and any one patient may have multiple diseases involving multiple organ systems and we best serve them when we understand each others areas of expertise and practice and this conference is an effort to facilitate that," said Dr. Phillip Roberts, Phoebe Cancer Center Director.

Doctors from Atlanta to Florida are expected to participate in the one-day conference.
