ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   The Albany Marine Base saluted former prisoners of war and missing in action service men and women.

The base's annual POW/MIA Recognition Day drew dozens of guests to honor service members throughout the history of our nation. Several South Georgians who were Prisoners of War were recognized.

Marines say they hold this recognition day each year to never forget the sacrifices these people made to ensure our freedoms.

"They continue to live with the memory of being in captivity. And for those who are missing in action, their families continue to live with that fact," said MCLB's Albany Commanding Officer  Col. Terry Williams.

The National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be held September 17th.
