VALDOSTA GA (WALB) -  Valdosta State coaches deciding Thursday who will play quarterback for Saturday's game at Newberry.Redshirt freshman Brett Whitmire relieved game one starter Jimmy Coy in the second half last week against Wingate.

Whitmire led the VSU offense to three field goals and another long drive ended with a fumble at the goal line.

Head coach David Dean is looking for the offense to finish drives.

He says the Blazers left in his words at least 31 points on the field last week with dropped passes, missed receivers and turnovers in the redzoen.

Dean says Whitmire and Coy have been splitting the reps in practice this week but the one the staff picks to start is going to get all of the work in the final practice before Saturday's game.

David D

ean said. "When we start going through our scripts and specific areas of the field we work on, we will know who our starter is so he can work on those plays that we like to use in those situations."

Valdosta State plays at Newberry at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
