Albany ATM stolen

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Albany Police are investigating a theft at the First State Bank on North Slappey where an automated teller machine was ripped out and stolen overnight.

Police say thieves used heavy equipment to swipe the ATM right out of the ground. A bank customer noticed the machine missing around 7:00, but it actually happened at 2:30 Tuesday morning.

"We're having to sit here and wait and it's postponing us working and everything. It's just messing up our whole day because we can't go to work right now. Plus, an ATM is bolted to the ground! It seems like it's more work than what it's worth," said Bank Customer Austin Kelley.

The ATM was found around nine this morning, not far from the bank. Police also found the stolen forklift nearby.

During the bold heist, thieves damaged a brick wall and even security cameras which is why police say there is no surveillance video of the incident. The bank was closed all morning but re-opened about 11:30.

So far, no one's been arrested.
