Albany -- An Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit officer has been named the first recipient of a national award from the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Sgt. George Camp of the Albany Police Department has been awarded the first Jake Kuredjian Award. It is presented by the Federal A.T.F. department to honor police officers for their contribution to their operations. Camp, a 14-year veteran of the Albany Police Department, is the high tech specialist of the Drug Unit. He has helped A.T.F. agents in several operations.
Sgt. Camp said "To have a federal agency look down and say this is a local cop who has helped us out. We want to repay him by giving him some recognition. And it helps, it helps a lot."
Camp is the first winner of the A.T.F. national award, named for a Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty.
Camp will be presented his award in Washington D.C. next Tuesday.
