Daniel Andersen connected on a 42-yard field goal as time expired to lead Valdosta State to a 25-22 victory over visiting Wingate.
Valdosta State relied on the running game early for scoring as the Blazers found the end zone on a pair of rushing plays and jumped out to a 16-0 lead. There was also a QB change during the game.
Coach Dean sat Jimmy Coy down and put in Brett Whitmire. He says the team needed a spark. Whitmire led the team down the field to win game. So we asked coach Dean what's the deal with Coy at QB?
Coach Dean said "I just thought that there was a time there that it looked like he was a little confused he was getting a little bit of happy feet in the pocket and I just wanted to bring him over to the sideline and calm him down a little bit and let him see something from the sideline that was happening out there and hopefully that would help him but Brett Whitmire started playing so well it was hard to take him out of the game."
Dean went on to say that he'd evaluate both players before making a decision on who starts next week against Newberry.
