ALBANY, GA (WALB) - People hitting the road this weekend in Georgia will travel on some of the best roads in the nation.
The Reason Foundation, a non-profit research organization, ranks highways and roads in several categories including pavement condition, bridge quality, and fatalities.
Georgia ranked first in interstate condition, 31st in fatalities, and ninth overall.
"That's fantastic because we have good roads in Albany and Dougherty County," said Cpl. Robert Richard. "I Travel the rural areas of Dougherty County a lot. I noticed the roads are well-maintained and it's good for the motorists."
The study says nationally, pavement conditions on urban interstates and rural primary roads are the best they've been in 17 years.
