ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Law enforcers will be out looking for speeders, impaired drivers, and seatbelt violations. People are more likely to get a speeding ticket in Georgia than most anywhere else.

According to the National Motorists Association,  Georgia and Nevada are tied for the second highest speeding ticket rate.

Florida is number one. Texas and Alabama round out the top five. Dougherty County Police say they are amping up traffic patrols during the holiday weekend.

"We'll have our patrols out in the evening hours tonight to keep safe as they try to get to their destination and making sure they're wearing their seat belts and not exceeding the speed limits," said Lt. Tom Jackson with Dougherty County Police.

Police say it's important to plan ahead to get to your destination safely. And they say drivers  shouldn't even consider getting behind the wheel after drinking.
