Robert's College Football Picks

Posted: Updated:

November 24, 2010

Plenty to be thankful for with a 10-1 record last week.  Only miss was NC State beating UNC.  I feel the Seminoles pain.  Hard to believe the final weekend of the regular season is here.  That means rivalries and they are not easy to predict.

Georgia Tech at Georgia:    Dogs need a win to become bowl eligible which is what the Jackets got last week.  UGA's lack of run defense does worry me but the Dogs have lost two straight on senior day and I think that is something that is being pointed out this week..UGA  34-17

Auburn at Alabama:  The Tigers are 11-0 and ranked #2 in the nation but are underdogs.  I know I didn't believe in Auburn in the preseason but I do know.  Cam Newton is the best player in the nation this season but the real strength of this Tiger team is their offensive line.  I have not seen a unit block better than the Tigers and Gus Malzahn has done a great job of recognizing where the Tigers bread is buttered....Auburn  31-27

Florida at Florida State:   The Gators have won six straight from the Seminoles.    Florida may have a three-headed QB but FSU has one pretty good senior and the Noles want to end their drought to the Gators.....FSU  23-20

South Carolina at Clemson:   A win over Troy shouldn't get noticed but the way Carolina took care of the Trojans coming off an emotional win over Florida speaks volumes to me.. Carolina 20-14

LSU at Arkansas:  The Bayou Tigers could find themselves in UGA's boat a few years ago.  A high ranking but no conference title and no BCS title game berth.  Hogs have the most consistent offense but the LSU defense is ready...LSU  27-24

Mississippi State at Ole Miss:   The Egg Bowl is in Oxford. Last year Dan Mullen and the Starkville Dogs set the stage for their 2010 season with a win over the Rebels.   Two in a row for the Starkville Dogs  MSU  34-33

Kentucky at Tennessee:  Vols have won three straight while the Cats haven't won in this series since Ronald Reagan's first term... UK  31-30

Wake Forest at Vanderbilt:  A good matchup if this was basketball but these two teams are already thinking about next year....    Vandy 42-41

N.C. State at Maryland:  Biggest game in the ACC.  Pack win the Atlantic with a win while a loss sends FSU to Charlotte.   Just don't think Maryland can't recover from last week's loss to the Noles...NC State 30-24

Boston College at Syracuse:   The Orange are one of the big surprises of the college football season while BC has a strong defense...SU  17-13

Virginia at Virginia Tech:   Throw out the records in this game but I still like the Hokies...Va Tech 28-10

North Carolnia at Duke:   Heels coming off a tough loss to NC State while Duke always gets up for this game...   Duke  27-24

South Florida at Miami:  Canes go for south Florida bragging rights.. UM  24-17

November 17, 2010

A rough start with the UGA and UF picks going down but did finish 9-3 thanks to a 5-1 record in the ACC.  Georgia Tech is the only blemish there.   UGA and Auburn are off so it hopefully won't be that tough.

Georgia State at Alabama (Thursday);   Bill Curry returns to Tuscaloosa and the good news for the Panthers is the Crimson Tide starters may be watching Auburn film in the second half.  They probably have already started working on the Tigers..Bama   56-0

Troy at South Carolina:  Trojans pick a good time to play the Gamecocks after their east clinching win last week.... Gamecocks survive barely....South Carolina  35-30

Appalachian St. at Florida:  Gators are not expected to be in a good mood after last week. UF 49-14

Ole Miss at LSU:   Tigers will lock up a BCS bowl bid with two straight wins.  No need for clock management here ( at least there shouldn't be Mad Hatter)  LSU  28-13

Arkansas at Mississippi St.:   Big game for the Starkville Dogs who can land a pretty good bowl berth with a win over the Hogs and Rebels... Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett may have just enough firepower..Arkansas  31-17

Tennessee at Vanderbilt:   Vols have won two straight and should leave Nashville with a third straight win... UT  41-10

Duke at Georgia Tech:   Jackets need this win in the worse way in order to get bowl eligible at 5-5.   Blue Devils coming off tough loss to BC.  GT 35-24

Florida St. at Maryland:   A big game in the ACC Atlantic with the loser out of the running for the title.  FSU needs a win and one more NC State loss to make Charlotte...FSU  34-27

NC State at North Carolina:   Wolfpack face two tough final ACC games on the road in order to win the Atlantic.  Tar Heels coming off tough loss at home to Virginia Tech... UNC  24-22

Clemson at Wake Forest:  Tigers take out their frustration on the lowly Deacs...Clemson 45-13

Virginia at Boston College:  Eagles coming off a big road win and may continue their late season surge...BC  30-13

Virginia Tech at Miami:  Canes coming off an impressive win on the road at GT but Va Tech is getting better each week...VT 27-14

November 10, 2010

Not a bad start to November with an 11-4 mark.  Missed Bama and Carolina in the SEC and FSU and BC in the ACC.  Got the ASU bonus pick correct.

Georgia at Auburn:   Forgotten in the Cam Newton Saga is the #2 Tigers host Georgia and the Bulldogs have won four straight.  That and the Newton controversy will have Auburn fired up.  Georgia has nothing to lose in this game in terms of SEC but needs a win to become bowl eligible.  UGA offense is the best Auburn has seen and if the Bulldogs come to play flag football can stay on the field with Cam and the Auburn attack...UGA  38-35

South Carolina at Florida:  The winner claims the SEC eastern division title.  Gamecocks looked like the front runner until they were picked apart last week by Arkansas.  The Gamecocks are injured and the Gators have just enough to win at home..UF  24-21

Mississippi State at Alabama:   The Tide are pulling hard for the Bulldogs in Athens but need to worry about the Starkville Dogs...  Alabama  27-10

Vanderbilt at Kentucky:   The Cats have been bothered by turnovers all season while Vandy is struggling...UK  30-16

Ole Miss at Tennessee:   Vols are still looking for their first SEC win while the Rebels are 1-4...UT   23-20

UTEP at Arkansas:  Hogs get a tune-up for the SEC stretch...Arkansas 49-28

Louisiana-Monroe at LSU:  Tigers get a chance to celebrate their win over Bama but they normally struggle in non-conference games this time of the year....LSU 35-13

Miami at Georgia Tech:  Jackets are out of the Coastal race and without QB Joshua Nesbitt but Miami is dreadful on the road.. GT  27-21

Clemson at FSU:   Seminoles have lost two straight and Christian Ponder's elbow is still sore.  Tigers are like Miami and never comfortable away from home..FSU  17-10

Wake Forest at NC State:   Noles need a win from the Demon Deacons but it is not happening...NC State 44-21

Maryland at Virginia:   Terps back on the road after a tough OT loss at UVA who lost at Duke...Maryland  31-17

Virginia Tech at North Carolina:  The Heels are still somewhat in the ACC coastal race after winning at FSU.  Hokies have won seven straight...  Va Tech  20-17

Boston College at Duke:  Eagles got their first ACC win last week while Duke also is riding high after winning at UVA... BC  28-20

November 3, 2010

Survived Halloween with an 8-3 record.  Two losses came in the ACC with FSU fumbling at their three and Miami not showing for a cool weather game at UVA.  Only miss in the SEC was my upset special on Ole Miss over Auburn.  My Auburn radar needs some adjusting.

Idaho State at Georgia:  When asked if freshman QB Huston Mason was going to play this week, head coach Mark Richt says at 4-5 the Bulldogs are overlooking nobody..UGA  56-0

Chattanooga at Auburn:  The Mocs are ranked in the FCS polls but Auburn will not have a worry before facing UGA....AU  63-21

Florida at Vanderbilt:   Gators feeling good after their OT win over UGA and this is a good tune-up before the Gamecocks come to Gainesville next week..UF  38-13

Alabama at LSU:   This is perhaps the scariest game for the Tide who still have SEC and national title hopes.  All of that is gone if they lose on the Bayou.  Both teams have had two weeks to prepare...Bama  23-13

Arkansas at South Carolina:  Gamecocks can still lose this game and win the east provided they win at Florida next week... Hogs have not measured up in big games this season..Carolina 31-24

Tennessee at Memphis:  The Vols need a win and the Tigers are a good choice even on the road.  UT  24-10

Louisiana-Lafayette at Ole Miss:  Rebels defense still trying to get the number of that truck that scored 50 points on them last week from Auburn...Ole Miss  38-10

Charleston Southern at Kentucky:  The Cats have dropped two straight since their win over Carolina..UK  35-7

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech (Thursday):   For the ACC champs this is must win.  Hokies are 4-0 in the ACC coastal and GT is 3-2.  One more loss and the Jackets can forget about a repeat.   Hokies started slow but right now are playing the best in the conference....VT  30-17

North Carolina at Florida St:   This has been a long week for the Noles after their goal line fumble at NC State.  Seminoles have to win while the Heels struggled to beat William & Mary....FSU 27-24

NC State at Clemson:    at 2-3 in the ACC, Clemson is still in the Atlantic race when you consider the schedule all four contenders have left in November.   Tigers likely to be in a bad mood after road loss at BC...  Clemson  28-21

Maryland at Miami:  The Terps just keep winning with a 3-1 record but the Canes are going to be at Cat 5 level after their performance at UVA.....Miami  35-31

Virginia at Duke:   Blue Devils need a win to share the cellar in the Coastal with the Cavs... Duke 27-17

Boston College at Wake Forest:   Another cellar dweller game in the ACC...Wake  13-10

Albany State vs Fort Valley State:   The biggest game in the state this weekend.  Winner gets the SIAC title.  Rams clinch the #1 seed in their region for the first time since 2004.   FVSU head coach-offensive coordinator Donald Pittman knows what ASU head coach-defensive coordinator Mike White loves to call in certain situations from his days with the Golden Rams.  It paid off last year.  this year though the Rams are balanced on offense and I think Stanley Jennings is going to be the difference...ASU   28-27

October 27, 2010

I should retire after posting an 10-1 record last week.  Only Boston College kept me from a perfect week with a home loss to Maryland.  I was right on the money with UGA, Auburn, Clemson and Miami.   This is Halloween weekend and I am scared about the way the ball will bounce this week.

Florida vs Georgia (Jacksonville):   These teams are both unranked in this game for the first time since 1979.  Gators have had two weeks to prepare and have lost three straight.  Georgia coach Mark Richt turned it up a notch in practice and the Bulldogs have won three straight. Florida coach Urban Meyer says he has also changed practice routines for his Gators in hopes of improving their play.   I think the extra week is going to be the difference...Florida 21-17

Auburn at Ole Miss:  The #1 Tigers are on the road after two impressive wins.   Tigers need to be wary because number one they are a number one team that has several issues and number two the Rebels need a win to save their season...  It is Halloween weekend..Ole Miss  38-34

Tennessee at South Carolina:  Gamecocks are back at home and face a Vols team that is starting to crumble and it is not Derek Dooley's fault.... South Carolina  31-13

Kentucky at Mississippi State:  The Starkville Dogs have won five straight while the Cats are coming off a miserable performance against UGA.... MSU  19-16

Vanderbilt at Arkansas:   The Hogs are turning football games into miniseries.  Five hours to beat Ole Miss last week.   Give me the Hogs in less than four hours this week..Arkansas 45-14

Florida State at NC State (Thursday)  This is a big game in the ACC Atlantic Race.  FSU on top at 4-0 and NC State is at 2-1.    Seminoles should have healthy Christian Ponder at QB and their defense should get plenty of pressure on State QB Russell Wilson....FSU 31-24

Clemson at Boston College:  Tigers face a key road game against an Eagles team that is winless in the ACC.    I just don't like Clemson away from Death Valley...BC 14-10

Miami at Virginia:  Canes stay on Va Tech's heels with a win over Carolina last week.   Cavs are struggling inside the conference...UM 27-10

Wake Forest at Maryland:  The Terps are 2-1 and have FSU coming to College Park in two weeks.  First Maryland has to deal with a Wake team that has some offensive firepower of their own but no defense...  Maryland  35-24

Duke at Navy:   Blue Devils at 1-6 need a win over Navy is still very tough..Duke  28-22

William & Mary at North Carolina:  Tar Heels need to recover after getting wiped out by the Canes last week..UNC  44-10

October 20, 2010

A double digit in the win column with 10-3 after a dead on prediction for Kentucky to knock off South Carolina but the Arkansas upset bid did not work out and I knew Florida would struggle offensively but not this bad.  Gators have a week off to right the ship.

Georgia at Kentucky:  Bulldogs are back in the SEC hunt after two home wins and losses by Florida and Kentucky over the weekend.  Wildcats have been a second half team but Georgia is opening up the offense and the Bulldogs have not forgotten the UK win in Athens last November...UGA  34-31

LSU at Auburn:   The Tigers are unbeaten despite the fact they have given up 171 points.  The offense has scored 285 points in seven games and Cam Newton is a Heisman Trophy favorite.  Auburn defense has had problems but the Tigers are making big plays and turnovers in the 4th quarter and that is going to be the difference Saturday...AU  28-17

South Carolina at Vanderbilt:    The Gamecocks were brought down to earth last week at UK and their star running back is battling an ankle injury.  Shouldn't matter this week...Carolina 35-14

Alabama at Tennessee:     Crimson Tide faithful still uneasy after last week's performance in a win over Ole Miss.  Vols have struggled but are one of many teams who have had two weeks to get ready for the Tide....Bama   24-3

Ole Miss at Arkansas:   Hogs are back at home and are not interested in anymore replays of last week's game at Auburn....Arkansas  38-27

UAB at Mississippi St.:  The Starkville Dogs are 5-2 and 2-2 in the SEC and should get their 6th win making them bowl eligible...MSU  38-20

Georgia Tech at Clemson:   Jackets showed signs of improving after back to back wins over Virginia and Middle Tennessee State.   Clemson snapped a three game losing streak with a win over Maryland.  Tigers are not a good matchup for the Jackets with their defensive front... Clemson 27-24

North Carolina at Miami:   One of the games that will solve the puzzle in the Coastal Division with the Canes needing a win after getting pummeled at home by FSU two weeks ago..Miami 21-13

Maryland at Boston College:   The winless Eagles came so close to knocking off FSU at home while Maryland's strong start hit a bump in the road at Clemson..BC  17-14

Duke at Virginia Tech:  Hokies are starting to hit on all cylinders...Va. Tech 31-16

Eastern Michigan at Virginia:  Cavs get a needed non-conference win..UVA  34-14

October 13, 2010

The cold streak got colder with an 8-5 record last week.  Missed the Bama game but did say if Carolina's Stephen Garcia played lights out the Gamecocks would win and he did but I didn't have the guts to pick that or LSU whick knocked off Flordai and give FSU credit to taking Miami to the woodshed.

Vanderbilt at Georgia:  Bulldogs broke out and have some confidence.  Also some true confessions with Mark Richt admitting a soft summer camp was not a good idea.  Bulldogs take one step closer back to .500  UGA  27-13

Arkansas at Auburn:  Tigers are unbeaten because they have found a way to win the close game.  Saturday a still suspect Tiger defense faces its biggest challenge not so much from Ryan Mallett but his big receivers....Arkansas 35-24

Mississippi St. at Florida:  It is not a good time for former Gators OC Dan Mullen to return to the Swamp...UF   38-10

Mississippi at Alabama:   First thing Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt did this week was take Steve Spurrier off his Christmas list. Bama  38-6

South Carolina at Kentucky:   Gamecocks looked like an SEC championship contender in beating Alabama.  The question they have to answer this week is can they put the Tide in the rear view mirror and get ready for a road trip to Kentucky....I don't think so..UK  23-17

McNeese St. at LSU:   Les Miles is probably the only coach who is considered on the hot seat after a 6-0 start.  This is just what the Tigers need with a trip to the Plains next week..LSU 34-3

Middle Tennessee St. at Georgia Tech:  Jackets are preparing for a fired up Blue Raider team that has Georgians on their roster..This one could be closer than some think...GT  42-31

Boston College at Florida St.:  The Seminoles made a statement with their 45-17 win at Miami while BC has been a big disappointment with so much experience returning...FSU  37-20

Maryland at Clemson:  Tigers haven't won since their physcial overtime loss at Auburn.  Terps are just what the Tigers need...Clemson  30-21

NC State at East Carolina:   Wolfpack better not be looking ahead to next Thursday's game against FSU...NC State  33-16

Wake Forest at Virginia Tech:  Hokies continue to get stronger each week..VT  35-17

Miami at Duke:  Blue Devils have had two weeks to get ready for the Canes who are not going to be in a good mood.... Basketball practice does start this week..UM  42-24

North Carolina at Virgnia:  Despite their problems the Heels continue to get it done on the field but Scott Field has never been easy to get a win..UNC  21-19

October 6, 2010

Cooler weather has cooled me off.  Only 10-4 last week with my upset special for the Gators going down in flames.  The Dogs let me down and I lost a home team pick with N.C.State in a game closer than the final score.   Let's get back on track.

Tennessee at Georgia:   Bulldogs are back at home and coach Mark Richt says all his team needs his a win.  They actually need to block and tackle but that is a different story.  Vols coming off a tough loss and after Georgia had a full pads practice on Monday. I think the Bulldogs will have fire in their eyes...at least they better... UGA  34-17

Auburn at Kentucky:  The Tigers are unbeaten and facing another road test.  Wildcats coming off two tough road losses.   Neither team has a defense that impresses me but I believe Cam Newton will be the difference against the Cats defense..AU  38-28

Alabama at South Carolina:  The Crimson Tide were very impressive with their win against the Gators.  Now they have to get back up for a Carolina team that has had two weeks to get ready.   The problem is Carolina still has Stephen Garcia at QB and unless he plays the best game of his life.  Alabama stays unbeaten..Bama  20-17

LSU at Florida:  How many lives does Les Miles have?   After a second clock meltdown, the Bayou Tigers were bailed out by Tennessee have 13 players on the field.  Tigers get an extra play and save themselves.  Sometimes games like these can mean the difference in a good season and a great season..   Still the Gators are likely ready to rebound at home..UF 27-10

Arkansas at Texas A&M:  The Hogs have had two weeks to think about their close call with the Tide.  Aggies are much improved...  Texas A&M  38-35

Eastern Michigan at Vanderbilt:  The Commodores better win this one..VU  27-24

Mississippi St. at Houston:  State Dogs face a Cougar team that has lost their top two QBs for the season..MSU  38-14

Virginia at Georgia Tech:  The reason why I love Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson is he gets right to the point.  Johnson's point is he is not happy with the way his Jackets team has been playing. Virginia got a reality check last week against Florida State and even though the Cavs coaches know what their former boss Al Groh wants to do defensively it will not make a difference.. GT 35-24

Florida St. at Miami:  These two former superpowers are both ranked and the visiting team has won the last four.  The Canes have had two impressive road wins and I think that visiting team winning streak ends this year..UM  31-28

Boston College at N.C. State:  The Wolfpack coming off their first loss of the season while the Eagles lost at home to Notre Dame.. NC State   24-17

Clemson at North Carolina:  A pivotal game for two teams who are both have lost their only ACC game to date.  UNC  28-21

Central Michigan at Virginia Tech:  The Hokies appear to have their ship on the right course.. Va Tech 30-13

Navy at Wake Forest:   The Midshipmen won the last meeting but I think the Demon Deacons can pull out a close one.. Wake  38-35

September 29, 2010

11 wins for a second straight week as I was correct that the Dogs and Jackets would struggle.  Almost on the money with the Tigers and Gamecocks.  The biggest game of the year in the SEC is Saturday and Georgia on the road in the Rockies.

Georgia at Colorado:   Bulldogs get A.J. Green back and the offense will likely take off.   It would also help if Caleb King is healthy.   Georgia not happy about the way they played in Starkville and I believe they will come out with some emotion Saturday night...UGA  31-17

Florida at Alabama:   What is likely going to be the first of two meetings.  Gators have been plotting revenge since last year's SEC championship game.  The reported new defensive front they are planning against Alabama may work considering the Gators secondary has caught from passes than their opponents have completed...Florida  19-17

Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn:  Gene Chizik said it best when he wants his Tigers to use this game to get better....AU   45-14

Kentucky at Ole Miss:   Wildcats got brought back to earth while the Rebels bounced back with a big home win against Fresno State....  Rebels already have one SEC loss at home and I don't think they will take another...Ole Miss   28-24

Tennessee at LSU:  Vols needed double overtime to beat UAB team that missed five field goals.  I said in August LSU was the sleeper in the west and their defense may make me look good in November...LSU  27-7

Vanderbilt at Connecticut:  Commodores head to Big East country but Vandy has not been dandy on the road...UConn  77-66 (I thought this was the NCAA basketball touranment)  UConn 23-16

Alcorn St. at Mississippi St:  The Starkville Dogs riding high after last week's win at UGA and should not have a letdown... MSU  36-19

Georgia Tech at Wake Forest:   This is a game of two of the top rushing teams in the nation.  The problem for both teams has been defense.  Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson has not been happy with the execution on offense and that should change Saturday...GT 42-28

Florida St. at Virginia:  It was 15 years ago the Cavs handed FSU their first ever ACC loss.   Seminoles had a convincing win in their ACC opener last week against Wake but better be ready for a UVA team that had USC on the ropes in LA three weeks ago...FSU  21-17

Miami at Clemson:   A big matchup between two teams in opposite divisions.  Tigers have had two weeks to recover from Auburn battle while the Canes were very impressive beating Pitt...Miami   24-14

Virginia Tech at N.C. State:  Wolfpack are in the Atlantic race after knocking off Georgia Tech last week in Atlanta.  Hokies gutted it out at BC..NC State 16-10

East Carolina at North Carolina:   The Pirates from Greenville always get up to play the Tar Heels but UNC needs a win...UNC  30-17

Duke at Maryland:    Two great offensive minded head coaches square off and I hope the Byrd Stadium scoreboard is ready...Maryland  37-31

Notre Dame at Boston College:     Eagles catch an Irish team that is still looking for the license number of the truck Stanford drove through South Bend...BC  27-14

September 22, 2010

Another solid week with an 11-3 record.  Missed the Dogs and Jackets plus Ole Miss who has some problems after losing at home to Vanderbilt.  for the season we are now 45-10.

Georgia at Mississippi State:  The Athens Dogs are reeling after the first 0-2 start in SEC play in the Mark Richt era.  The Athens Dogs think they can build off their 4th quarter comeback and the improved play will carry over in Starkville where Georgia is 4-1.   I'm wary of former Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen taking advantage of a Bulldog defense that has not looked good the last two weeks.... MSU  23-20

South Carolina at Auburn:  One of the pivotal games in the SEC.  It is an inter-division game meaing the winner will get a big boost in their hopes of playing in Atlanta in December.  Tigers coming off a bruising win and may not be 100% after their comeback against Clemson.   This is the Gamecocks first road trip... going with the home team..AU  31-24

Alabama at Arkansas:  The Hogs are thinking upset of the #1Tide after their win at Athens.  Bama has looked strong but their secondary faces a big challenge against the very physical Arkansas receivers...Bama  35-17

Kentucky at Flordia:  The Gators goal is to avoid the slow starts that have plagued them in their first three game.  Wildcats are unbeaten but really untested...UF  24-10

West Virginia at LSU:   Bayou Tigers have struggled on offense and the Mountaineer spread may be a good test for their upcoming game at the Swamp...LSU  27-22

Fresno St at Ole Miss:  The Rebels are struggling and playing the Bulldogs from Fresno who love to beat any big time team anywhere is not a good non-conference game.... Ole Miss 24-23

UAB at Tennessee:   Former Tiftarea QB Bryan Ellis makes his first start for the Blazers.  The Vols may not have alot of talent but they are playing hard and that is worth something..UT  27-13

Miami, Fl. at Pittsburgh:  A battle of former Big East rivals...Pitt  20-17

Virginia Tech at Boston College:  The Hokies are impressing no one and the Eagles are very good at home.. BC  17-10

NC State at Georgia Tech:  The Wolfpack are 3-0 and have had some extra time to get ready for this game.. NC State  28-20

Wake Forest at FSU:   A battle of two very good offense but I like the Seminoles at home... FSU 34-24

North Carolina at Rutgers:  The Heels need a win but it will not be easy at Rutgers..UNC 31-30

VMI at Virginia:  The Cavs are much improved under new coach Mike London UVA  38-7

Army at Duke:  The Blue Devils win a wild one..Duke  37-35

Fla International at Maryland:  Friedgen doesn't need to lose this one..Md  35-14

September 15, 2010

A very good 15-4 record in week two with misses with Georgia Tech and FSU (don't know why I picked the Noles) and Auburn.  Was right on with Georgia.  For the season I am 34-7.

Arkansas at Georgia:  After last week's loss at South Carolina, Georgia's defense will play with a chip on their shoulder and Georgia's coaching staff will allow QB Aaron Murray to open up the offense with or without A.J. Green. Arkansas has yet to play a significant opponent..UGA 27-21

Florida at Tennessee:  Normally this is one of the big games on the SEC schedule but not this year.   The Gators could stumble in their first road game and the Vols will give effort after their new coach says the laid down against Oregon...UF  23-10

Clemson at Auburn:   Battle of the Tigers and it is hard to gauge this game. Clemson is untested after beating North Texas and Presbyterian and Auburn's defense did not impress last week against Mississippi State.  But after what happened to the ACC last week I am imploring the SEC vs ACC theory...Auburn  34-27

Alabama at Duke:   The #1 Crimson Tide get Mark Ingram and Marcel Dareus back just in time for a big road game at Duke.  It actually is a good preseason test for those two with the Gators just two weeks agay...Bama  35-13

Mississippi State at LSU: The Bayou Tigers are criticized for every play but they are 2-0 and sholuld be 3-0 Saturday night..LSU 24-14

Vanderbilt at Ole Miss:    The Rebels rebounded from their week one loss to Jacksonville State. That win was in New Orleans against Tulane and this is their first game in Oxford...Ole Miss 30-17

Furman at South Carolina:  The Gamecocks are still celebrating their UGA win this game could be interesting...USC   38-7

Akron at Kentucky:  Cats roll again UK  33-14

Georgia Tech at North Carolina:  The Yellow Jackets are promising to be motivated fo rhteir ACC opener.  The Tar Heels, despite the off the field issues, have had two weeks to get ready for the option....UNC   24-22

BYU at Florida State:  The Seminoles are looking for redemption after the beatdown they took in Norman..FSU  38-24

Cincinnati at N.C. State:    The Wolfpack are undefeated after surviving a tough road test at Central Florida... This may be the year in Raleigh..NC State 20-17

Maryland at West Virginia:  A big rivalry game in another ACC/Big East matchup..WVA  28-24

East Carolina at Virginia Tech:  The Pirates have double trouble.  First they beat the Hokies in Greenville two years ago and the Hokies are not exactly thrilled about starting the season 0-3...Va Tech  31-7

Wake Forest at Stanford:  The Demon Deacons have offense and not much defense after their shootout with Duke.. Stanford  36-31

September 8, 2010

The first week was great at 19-3 with the only misses being Ole Miss, Navy and Virginia Tech.  Not bad but the games were easy and that is not the case this week.

Auburn at Miss State (Thursday):  I have felt all summer this is a dangerous game for Auburn for two reasons.  One it is a short week on the road and number two Mississippi State is getting better on offense with head coach Dan Mullen who is looking for a statement win on national television...Mississippi State 34-31

Georgia at South Carolina:  I would like to thank the NCAA for letting me know A.J. Green's status for this game.  Green's suspension means Carolina d can load the box with defenders and force Aaron Murray to beat them with the pass.  I don't think he is ready.. Carolina 17-10

South Florida at Florida:  The Gators didn't impress anyone with their week one win over Miami, Ohio since they dropped four spots in the AP Poll.  South Florida knocked off FSU in Tallahassee but they will not get the Gators... Florida 35-21

Penn State at Alabama:  The defending nationall champions may not have their Heisman Trophy winner in Mark Ingram but they do have Trent Richardson.  Penn State and the rest of the Big Ten is looking to show the SEC they can play football..Alabama  24-14

Louisiana Monroe at Arkansas:  The Hogs enjoy another barbecue...Arkansas 49-14

LSU at Vanderbilt:  The Tigers held on to beat the Tar Heels and now I think will survive a close call at Vandy....LSU 20-14

Oregon at Tennessee:  The Ducks scored early and often against New Mexico and I don't think the Vols defense can handle their firepower..Oregon 30-17

Ole Miss at Tulane:  Do you think Ole Miss will show up for the second half this week?  Ole Miss 27-17

Western Kentucky at Kentucky:  Wildcats growl   41-13

Georgia Tech at Kansas:  The Jayhawks are changing quarterbacks after their 6-3 loss to North Dakota State.   Georgia Tech will be just fine with their QB...Jackets  49-3

Florida State at Oklahoma:  Sooners defense looked shaky against Utah State and FSU is brinigng a very good one to Norman..FSU  28-24

Duke at Wake Forest:  The Demon Deacons may be the team to watch under the radar in the Atlantic this season..Wake  23-20

James Madison at Virginia Tech:  Bad week for the Dukes to head south down I-81..VaTech 36-0

Kent State at Boston College:   Eagles fly high...BC 38-10

Presbyterian at Clemson:  The Blue Hose I think are still looking for their first DI one win...Clemson 56-0

Miami at Ohio State:  The Canes can derail the Buckeyes national championship plans but I think Terrelle Pryor will be the difference...OSU  21-10

Morgan State at Maryland:  Terps survive against Navy and have a relaxing Saturday in College Park... Maryland 38-12

N.C. State at Central Florida:   Wolfpack pull out a close one...N.C. State 24-23

Virginia at USC:  The Trojans still have plenty of firepower...USC 41-14

September 1, 2010

The college football season is finally here.  The first weekend does not offer many blockbuster matchups so unless we have some unbelievable upsets.  This could be easy but nothing is when it comes to predicting college football games.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Georgia:   The Bulldogs unveil a new 3-4 defense but it is an experienced Rajun Cajun defense versus Georgia redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray that could make this game interesting early...UGA   31-17

Miami, Ohio at Florida:  The Post-Tebow era starts off great for John Brantley and the Gators...UF 49-13

Arkansas State at Auburn:  The Tigers need to make quick work of Arkansas State with a Thursday night trip to Starkville...AU   45-15

Southern Miss at South Carolina (Thursday):  The Gamecocks defense has been dominant in Thursday openers for Carolina but USM has one of the top receivers in the nation in DeAndre Brown.  Also there is the ..USC   24-20

Kentucky at Louisville:   This Bluegrass rivalry takes a new turn with Joker Phillips now the head coach at UK and former Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong now at UL.  Phillips has more in the cupboard than Strong right now...UK  34-10

Jacksonville St. at Ole Miss:  Even without Jeremiah Masoli the Rebels should win this game.. Ole Miss  27-13

Memphis at Mississippi St.:  The Starkville Bulldogs finished the 2009 season playing good football and that should continue Saturday.  Miss State  19-14

Northwestern at Vanderbilt:  New Vandy coach Robbie Caldwell had the media in stitches with his appearance at SEC Media Days.  I don't think Vandy alums will be laughing Saturday night...Northwestern  31-30

Tennessee Tech at Arkansas:  Ryan Mallett and the Hogs are ready to fly in 2010 and get the season started off on a good note... Arkansas  38-16

Tennessee-Martin at Tennessee:  New Vols coach Derek Dooley has faced some big challenges in his first season and he hasn't even coached his first game.    The Vols don't have much on paper right now and Dooley better hope football games are still played on grass..UT  20-16

LSU at North Carolina:   The Tar Heels start the season with plenty of questions and they all deal with whether key players are going to be eligible after an NCAA investigation.  LSU  13-10

South Carolina State at Georgia Tech:  The Orangeburg Dogs are a good football team but they are not ready for the Jackets option attack...GT   42-7

Samford at FSU:   The Seminoles will not be thinking Oklahoma after last year's Jax State game and Jimbo Fisher's debut....FSU   45-17

Florida A&M at Miami (Thursday):  Canes roll in their opener    41-10

Presbyterian at Wake Forest:   Demon Deacons   42-0

North Texas at Clemson:  Big Mean Orange   44-7

Elon at Duke:   Normally the Southern Conference would be favored in one of these SoCon vs ACC matchups.. Duke  28-20

Richmond at Virginia:  UVA head coach Mike London faces his former team in his first game.  Funny how those things work out..UVA  17-13

Western Carolina at NC State:   Wolfpack have experience and should have no problem with Catamounts....NC State  34-14

Weber State at Boston College;  The Eagles have no problems...BC   31-17

Navy at Maryland (Monday):   The Fridge needs a good season but I'm afraid the Terps will struggle against with the Middies..Navy  35-31

Boise St. at Virginia Tech (Washington-Monday):  Perhaps the biggest game of the weekend for both teams.   The Broncos are a legitimate national championship contender and could make a case for the top spot with a win against the Hokies.  Both of these teams return plenty of talent but Broncos coach Chris Petersen is tough in games where he has had time to prepare...Boise State 28-25
