New York-- Auburn centerfielder Javon Moran was taken in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Lowndes High product had a 338 batting average with four homeurns and 31 runs batted this season for the Tigers.

Moran also stole 26 bases in 31 attempts and his slugging percentage of .500.

In high school, Moran was a key member of the Lowndes Vikings AAAA state championship team in 2000.

Moran's college teammate Levale Speigner of Thomasville went in the 14th round to the Minnesota Twins.

Speigner, who pitched the Bulldogs to the state AA baseball title in 1999, was 10-0 in his senior season at Auburn where he was used mainly as a relief pitcher though he did make five starts.
