Albany - You'll soon see new car dealerships popping up on Auto Row in East Albany. County Commissioners are spending $400,000 to develop property on East Oglethorpe Boulevard to attract car dealers.
Chamber of Commerce President Tim Martin says Wren Mitsubishi has already agreed to move the Auto Row, and a least one other dealership may follow. "Car dealerships generate millions in tax revenue. I can't say what companies have expressed interest in moving to Auto Row. But, I'm confident expanding Auto Row is a step in the right direction," said Martin.
The 9 car dealerships currently on Auto Row generate $72,000,000 in sales tax each year.
