Lowndes is storm ready

June 2, 2003

Valdosta - A South Georgia county is prepared for severe weather.

Lowndes County has been certified as a storm ready community. That means the area has proper action plans in place to detect and to respond to all types of severe weather.

Lowndes Emergency Management Agency Director Nick Lacey says citizens can make the area even more storm ready by purchasing weather radios. "They can be purchased relatively cheap from local merchants and these devices will help citizens be more alert and prepared to avoid severe weather damage," said Lacey.

The storm ready certification is issued by the National Weather Service and is valid for 3 years.
