ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Americus-Sumter Panthers come will enter this season under a new head coach and a new classification Former Valdosta High offensive coordinator Michael Pollock is now the head coach for the Panthers who have dropped down to AAA.
Pollock's first team will be dominated by defense. The Panthers have all state defensive end Jonathan Battle who is back after a knee injury last year and Pat Fields and safety Thomas Haugabrook. The offense though will be young especially at the skill position. Split end Dwayne Waters will be counted on as one of the playmakers. Until the offense catches on, the Panthers will rely on defense.
Michael Pollock said. "I think any team that's worth anything has to be a good defensive team we certainly have to play good on defense. We're not here to try and outscore a bunch of people, I don' t think we wanna play a whole bunch 42-38 games so I think we're going to build our team around our defense"
Americus-Sumter hosts LIberty County on Friday in the Panthers season opener.
