ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new entrance is the latest change that's part of a new marketing campaign designed to attract more visitors at Chehaw Park.

Chehaw visitors now have a brand new sign to welcome them to south Georgia's iconic park off Philema road. New visitors have a more advanced warning when they're getting close.

The sign is part of an image makeover that's been going on for several months. Executive Director, Doug Porter says it includes web site, and sign improvements throughout the park.

"This is our image," said Porter. "This is our front door. This is our curb appeal and our chance to show people there is something exciting going on here."

The roughly $20,000, 10ft sign has Chehaw's new image in mind. You would think the posts are made out of wood. They're actually made out of metal so that they last longer.

Pete Radano and his dog enjoy evenings at the park. He notices the worthwhile investment.

"It's a big improvement and it shows progress in the park which is great," said Radano. "That and the Frisbee golf course is a fantastic place to come."

Other improvements include a new gate, with an added exit lane and a two lane entrance. It sits in between a landscaping project that will become home to native plants and trees.

A revamped park may attract more visitors to see all walks of life inside the gates. The park hopes to finish the new image project, which includes landscaping, within a month.
