ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A jury was seated Monday evening and opening statements will begin first thing Tuesday morning in the murder trial of an Alabama man accused of killing a Sumter County woman.

Johnny Ray Cochran was arrested during a traffic stop in Alabama in September 2007 and charged in the shooting death of 47-year-old Melony Strickland.

Relatives discovered her body in a mobile home off Middle River Road several weeks before he was captured. Cochran fought extradition to Georgia for six months.
