Power Customers in for a rude awakening when temps drop

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A staggering number of power customers aren't paying their utility bills, but Water, Gas and Light still isn't cutting off their service because of the heat.

For most of July, and all of August so far, Water, Gas and Light has not cut off customers for failure to pay their bills because the heat index has reached at least 100 degrees.  There are now more than one thousand customers on the cutoff list who may end up with monster bills.

Many of those on the list have now received two bills, with another soon on the way.  This is the fourth year Water, Gas and Light has enforced a policy not to cut off when the heat index hits 100, but this has been the hottest summer by far.

VP Lorie Farkas said, "We have never had almost two months where we've not cut anybody off.  It's really reaching really high numbers, over 1000 people, again, who have not been cut off that should have been."

Even when your power isn't cut off, your bill continues to accumulate and late fees are added every month you don't pay your bill.
