ATKINSON COUNTY, GA (WALB) – A lover's quarrel leads to a Sunday morning murder in Atkinson County.

Four people are involved, two of them sisters. Now one of the sister's husbands is dead and her ex-husband is charged with stabbing him to death.

The call came in just after midnight about a fight in front of a house on Old Douglas Highway.

"There was a lot of blood so he called for EMS and back-up," said Sheriff David Moore, Atkinson County.

Police say the ex-husband of Linda Mitchem got into a fight with her current husband.

"He had been stabbed multiple times," said Moore.

Twenty-eight year old Che Mitchem was pronounced dead at the scene.

"One sister had an ex-husband and was remarried to a new man, the other sister was involved with the ex-husband." said Moore.

Lisa Hamlin and 40-year-old John Hites came to the house and knocked on the door.

"The two sisters proceeded to fight. Husband went out the door to break up the fight and the ex-husband stabbed him," said Moore.

After the fight the sheriff says Hites left the scene and went back to his house on Allen Avenue. Hites was hiding in a trench near a wooded area across the street.

Right now, Hites is in the Coffee County Jail Charged with Aggravated assault. Formal murder charges could come on Monday.

Officials say the four recently moved to the area from Orlando Florida.
