BAKER COUNTY, GA (WALB) – A few south Georgia sheriff's are teaming up not to fight crime but to raise money.

Saturday afternoon Mitchell, Baker, and Decatur County sheriff's showed up at the Rocky Bent Flint River Retreat.

It's for the Flint River Poker Float.

At six thirty this morning 59-people entered the waters up river at the Dougherty county line.

Players picked up cards on the way down the river to play the game.

Their participation along with sponsorship raised about $20,000 for the sheriff's association.

"The sheriff's association has these youth homes for orphan kids and we try to raise money in the community to help finance it for the boys and girls, said Sheriff W.E. Bozeman, Mitchell County.

"We give them a card when they put-in and we had three other stations along the river where they get another card. Whoever has the best hand at the end wins a gift card," said Sheriff Dana Meade, Baker County.

Though it wasn't a race 15-year-old Justin Bankston was the first to finished the more than 20 mile journey in about six hours.
