LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) – Dozens of law enforcers from multiple agencies are working road checks in one county, hoping to keep South Georgia motorists safe.

More than one hundred officers fanned out to at least half a dozen road blocks across Lee County.

Officers came from as far as Early, Tift, and Decatur counties.

The Governors Office of Highway Safety leads an effort like this once a month to check for violations and educate drivers.

Within the first 30-minutes tonight, deputies took a suspected drunk driver into custody.

They found three liquor bottles in his car. The man could barely walk.

Driving under the Influence is just the type of dangerous violation the road blocks aim to stop.

Late Friday night they told us they had made 11 arrests, including drugs and DUI's, and had written more than 75 tickets.
