ALBANY, GA (WALB) - - The Marines conducted what they call a Sergeants Major Relief and Appointment ceremony on base Friday.

In the tradition of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Major Scott C. Mykoo, passed on the Non Commissioned Officer's Sword, which symbolized the office of Sergeant Major was passed on to Sgt. Major Stephen A. Thomas.

Thomas comes from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

"I'm excited about the post, folks here have been really nice, the Marines," said Thomas. "This base here supports our war fighters in the end and that's what's most important to us. Also, as you well know, our work force, quite a bit of it is from the local community and I'm excited about what the marine corps does here."

Mykoo head to his new posting, the Horn of Africa, in September.
