Lee County, GA (WALB) – Heritage Bank of the South makes some headway on a new branch in Lee County.
Bank and community leaders threw the first shovels of dirt at the site Thursday morning.
They'll leave the heavy lifting to construction crews over the few months, but they've been doing heavy lifting of their own to get to this point.
Even though the banking industry has been hit particularly hard in the past couple of years, Heritage has been able to execute its growth strategy and in the past six months along, assets have grown by 40%.
This new branch is just another example of that growth pattern. Market Manager Jimmy Wilson grew up in downtown Leesburg and is excited about returning to his roots.
"This just does feel like a homecoming to me, and certainly I appreciate HeritageBank for giving me this opportunity to really demonstrate what we can do for the county and the community and the banking industry," said Wilson.
The new branch is expected to open by May of next year. Currently, Heritage operates 16 locations in Georgia and Florida.
