By Jade Bulecza - bio | email

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) –A former inmate in a south Georgia jail has tuberculosis.

Lowndes County authorities are now working to identify inmates and staff that may have come in contact with him.

They'll be tested as a precaution and offered treatment like six to nine months of antibiotics if results come out positive.

Sheriff Chris Prine says all inmates are tested for TB when they're incarcerated.

The disease is passed through the air from person to person and affects the lungs.
