Albany - South Georgia's Santa Claus is honored for his service to the community.

Joe Farris, the 2003 recipient of the Mitchell County Liberty Bell Award, has spent the past forty years making trips to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, bringing joy to the lives of the children there.

During his eighty appearances as Santa Claus, once a year as part of a Christmas in July celebration and again during the traditional Christmas season, Farris has helped ease the pain of countless suffering children.

The Liberty Bell Award is presented by the local bar association to those who perform outstanding community service.
