Cowart, the 18th overall pick in the first round, is already in Arizona and will play a minor league game Monday night. Kaleb Cowart was the Gatorade High School Player of the Year. He led the Cook High Hornets to a state runner-up finish in the AA playoffs and his batting average his senior season was the second highest in state history. Cowart was scouted by some teams as an infielder and others as a pitcher. He will begin his pro career as an position player.
ADEL, GA (WALB) - The Los Angeles were able to reach a deal with their top draft pick Cook High infielder Kaleb Cowart just hours before a midnight deadline.
Cowart had signed a college scholarship with Florida State last November.
