In high school football, the Cairo Syrupmakers are looking to get back on top after a 9-4 season last year. The team won them all in 2008 but were defeated four times in 2009. Nine starters will be returning on offense.
At quarterback, head coach Tom Fallow says the job is for the taking. Senior Brandon McCreary and transfer Grant Lattimore will battle for the starting position. In the backfield Lequinton Williams and Miguel Smiley will get most of the carries. On defense the Syrupmakers bring back 8 of 11 starters in a tough region with the likes of Americus Sumter and Worth.
Coach Fallow said "Anytime you lose your quarterback you kind of have an uncertainty there, we really lost our quarterback on defense too when we lost our free safety, he really makes all the coverage calls and everything for us. We're replacing our two most important leaders from a year ago".
The Syrupmakers will face off against Drew in their opener.
