ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  Most people who get promotions don't have a band playing in their honor and a visitor from Washington, D.C., but one person in Albany got both Friday.

More than 100 friends, family, Marines and local dignitaries were on hand to see Brigadier General James Kessler promoted to the rank of Major General.

After hearing a speech from Lieutenant General Frank Panter and a proclamation from the Secretary of the Navy, Kessler received his second star.

He was praised for his work at LOGCOM, but General Panter said that his abilities became evident to his superior officers much earlier.

General Kessler, however says that he couldn't do it alone. "The workforce has been phenomenal. And their abilities, their desire, their patriotism has just been astounding," he said.

Major General Kessler has been at LOGCOM since June 2009. He has been in the Marine Corps since 1980.
