FSU players respect Jimbo

TALLAHASSEE , FL (WALB) -  New Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is putting his stamp on the program.

Fisher has made several changes since taking over for the Hall of Fame head coach Bobby Bowden.

One change is how the players address their new head coach.

Defensive back Greg Reid said. "We can call him coach Jimbo."

Recover Bert Reed said. "That is all I call him is Jimbo. He has enough respect we can call him that. "

Florida State's head coach Jimbo Fisher says as long as they players show respect they can call him by their first name.

Jimbo Fisher " You can say coach with disrespect just like you say Jimbo or you can say both with respect. It is something I have no problem with and I encourage it because there is a time and there is a bond."

The players say they will always address their coach with respect because Fisher has earned it on the practice field.

Bert Reed "He knows we have the respect for him when it comes down to it that we respect him. We are going to do what he says because we know he is not going to lead us in any wrong direction anytime because he has our best interest at hand.

And Jimbo Fisher notes there is another coach who doesn't mind his players calling him by his first name.

Fisher "It has worked for Joe Paterno his whole life and it has worked for Joe."

FSU fans hope it will also work for Jimbo.

Seminoles open the Jimbo Fisher era September 4th in Tallahassee against Samford.
