Rebuilding time in Fitzgerald

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - Fitzgerald High is in rebuilding mode after losing a senior class that made two straight trips to the AA semifinals.

The Purple Hurricanes lost eight starters on both sides of the football but it is defense that really worries head coach Robby Pruitt.

Fitzgerald opens the season at home August 20th against Tift County.

Head coach Robby Pruitt said "We are going to rely on him a bunch. He played for us even when he was in 8th grade. So really he is like a senior when it comes to years put in on the varsity. We are going to have to ride on him and count on him a lot."

The Canes do return two talented linebackers in Michael Troutman and Bryce Garrett and safety Jacquadrian Lewis.

Over on offense, the Canes still have plenty of talent in the backfield with Tevin Steweart-Gaulding, Tolerance Shepherd, Fred Hooks and Stephen Smalls.

The Canes are also glad to have starting quarterback Kaleb Nobles back for his junior season.
