LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) – The GOP has its eyes set on November now that the party has a nominee for Governor.
Former Congressmen Nathan Deal beat Karen Handel by fewer than 2,500 votes.
Handel conceded the tight race Wednesday.
Democrat Roy Barnes has been focused on the general election since his easy primary victory three weeks ago.
One south Georgia Deal supporter says the Republican nominee is a strong candidate who will run a good campaign.
"I supported Nathan Deal because I feel he is friend to rural Georgia. I believe rural Georgia is going to be key in this race between Roy Barnes and Nathan Deal. What's going to be interesting is the Washington dynamic in this race. It's going to be easy for Roy Barnes to want to paint him as some kind of Washington insider, but the fine line there is that Barnes doesn't Obama around his neck either. So I'm going to be curious to watch the Washington connection develop," said Rep. Ed Rynders,
Rynders, a Republican who represents District 152, says he spoke with the Deal campaign today and says the candidate is planning to make several trips to our area between now and November.
