Cairo - A military helicopter was saved from the junkyard by a veteran.

The Huey helicopter sits in front of "The Tire and Rim Outlet" in Cairo. It was built in 1960 to train pilots at Fort Rucker, Alabama. US Navy retired door gunman, Doug Taylor, salvaged the chopper. Taylor says, "I went and got it, put it all back together. It's still missing a few pieces, but it looks pretty much as original as it did back in the 60's."

The Army helicopter had a stereo system added and the engine was replaced with an amplifier. It also has military clothing and authentic equipment.

The VFW Post 8433 of Cairo shows off the chopper at parades and veteran celebrations.
