VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta High is looking to Rance Gillespie to bring the Wildcats back to the stop in Georgia.

Gillespie led Peach County to back to back state titles before leaving to join Chris Hatcher's staff at Georgia Southern.

Coach Gillespie takes over a team that has two of the top players in the state tight end Jay Roms and cornerback Malcolm Mitchell.

Coach Gillespie believes a defense that also includes linebackers Jermaine Holmes and Justin Williams will carry the team early.

Valdosta wants the running game to carry the offense with Phillip Moore, Dashay March and Reggie McQueen expected to get the football.

The real question is at quarterback where Alex Stephenson and Ryan Weldon are battling for the job.

Rance G

illespie said. "As long as the both of them are maturing, growing and coming on, I've got no problem with it a being a two horse race at this point."

Valdosta opens the season at home August 27th against Brooks County.
