(Undated-AP) -- State Patrol officials say traffic deaths in Georgia were lower than expected over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Patrol had predicted 21 deaths, but as of midnight there had been 12. Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says good weather and lots of patrolmen out on the highways contributed to the low death count.

The patrol recorded 2,300 and eleven traffic accidents, compared with 2,500 predicted. There were 554 injuries, with 682 predicted.
