ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Hundreds of youngsters are gearing up for a little friendly competition.     Sign-ups are underway for youth football and cheerleading with the Albany Recreation and Parks Department.

Kids six to 12 can participate.  The fees are $35 for football, $25 for cheerleading.   Recreation director Suzanne Davis expects about 500 young people to sign up.

She said, "It's a wonderful program.  It runs throughout the fall, it's a great way to teach our young people sports and teach them how to get along well with each other in situations and keep them off the street in the after school."

Registration continues through September 1st.     Football games will be played at Paul Eames Park this fall.
