Bainbridge, GA (WALB) –  The City of Bainbridge has now joined the rest of Decatur County in outlawing the tethering of dogs.

The city council amended its current leash ordinance to prohibit tethering with only two exceptions.  Dogs can be attached to a running line or pulley system as long as a choke or pinch collar is not used.

Temporary chaining or tethering is also okay, but only while the animals' caretakers are performing an outdoor task that doesn't exceed one hour.

The tethering ordinance comes after public outcry following several instances of abuse and neglect of tethered dogs in Bainbridge this year.
