ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency recently improved the rating of Dougherty County from Class seven to Class six.

That means premiums for flood insurance qualify for a discount. Not everyone will see a decrease in their rates, but homeowners with flood insurance should contact their insurance agents to check.

"We saw some ways we could improve, do a better job of how we could present our plan to the folks that make those decisions, both on a state and federal level and we met or exceeded their expectations," said Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard.

The change in the Flood Insurance Community Rating went into effect May first.
