ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   Earl Scott plead guilty to murder this morning in the shooting death of Herby Wells in 2006.

Scott was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole, as well as two other life sentences for killing 54-year-old Herby Wells in the head during a robbery at A J's Food Store on East Broad Avenue in January 2006.

Wells was a regular customer who used to hang out at the store.  His family agreed with the decision of prosecutors to drop the death penalty in exchange for the guilty plea.

Co-defendant Bobby Thomas was convicted of the murder almost three years ago, but prosecutors believe Scott fired the fatal shot.

Scott was sentenced by Dougherty Superior Court by Judge Loring Gray.
