Inmate convicted of prisoner's death

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –  A prisoner got a life sentence for killing an inmate at the Valdosta State Prison.

25-year-old Cornelius Hatney has been ordered to serve life in prison by the Southern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge James Tunison.

He was found guilty Monday in the Superior Court of Lowndes County, for aggravated assault and felony murder.

In October 2008, he was accused of beating Etete Essang to death. He initially was in the Valdosta State Prison for a 2001 robbery in Dekalb County.

He was later transferred to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison at Jackson.

    Albany leaders are considering a new budget that includes an Albany Utilities rate hike that when added up will bring in $2.6 million annually to the utility. Divided out, it will mean a maximum of $7.68 per a customer that has all five services, less money for customers that use less services.
