CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB) –  A 13-year-old Dooly County girl  on a joyride with a friend died Monday evening when she crashed the car.

The passenger, a 12-year-old girl from Wilcox County, was seriously hurt when the car slammed into a tree on a dirt road in rural Crisp County.

"We've got a 13-year-old driver. We believe speed might have had a factor in it. We've got no seat belts in the vehicle being used," said Sgt. Jon Posey with the Georgia State Patrol.

It was around 5:00 when Breanna Peacock and her 12-year-old friend, Aliyah Stokes, were driving down Listonia Road. The inexperienced driver lost control of the car in a dip and slammed head on into a tree.

"This was the passenger's mom's vehicle. She called her mom to say they were in the wreck and they were hurt. So mom, in turn, called 911," said Posey.

When paramedics arrived, Peacock was dead.  Stokes was rushed to the hospital and later air lifted to Medical Center of Central Georgia with a broken pelvis.

"The passenger and the mom are in Macon now and we haven't had a chance to sit down and talk to them and find out what was going, how long they had the car, why they had the car, or any kind of action that might have taken place during the wreck," said Posey.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation.
